Removing harsh chemicals from your clothes while supporting Veterans.

Helen Rusaw, Female Veteran Owner of Sergeant Suds Laundry Powder, with her mother Lois.

With a life-changing decision to enlist in the U.S. Army, I celebrated my 21st birthday in boot camp. After meeting my husband and welcoming our first son into the world, I decided to take an honorable discharge and transition from an active soldier to a military spouse.

Over the next 30 years, my boys and I supported my husband as he served in the military, navigating the challenges of budgeting and making ends meet on a constrained military income. This experience taught me firsthand the financial sacrifices and adjustments required to sustain a family on a soldier's pay.

Along the way, I often volunteered at homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food banks, hospitals, and blood drives. These experiences shaped my perspective and fueled my desire to make a difference in my community. So, it didn’t feel out of place for me at 60 years old to start a business geared towards helping local Veterans. The dedication to my vision led to the development of Sergeant Suds Laundry Powder, a powerful yet gentle laundry detergent that is making a positive impact on both our environment and our Veteran community.

I try to spread the inspiration that it all starts with a simple thought, a vision, or a need to make a difference in someone's life. I’ve learned that no matter the goal, taking that initial leap of faith is the greatest challenge.

Remembering slow and steady progress is key; one small step can change lives, including your own!
